On Tuesday night, Pakistan's security forces carried out an operation to scatter thousands of supporters of the country's imprisoned former Prime Minister Imran Khan, after the crowd broke through barriers and gathered in the capital, Islamabad, calling for his release. Authorities had imposed a security lockdown across the country, enforced internet blackouts, and blocked key roads leading to the capital to stop protesters from entering, after Khan urged his supporters to march on parliament. Pakistan’s Interior Minister, Mohsin Naqvi, told reporters that protesters could stay on the outskirts of Islamabad but warned of severe actions if they entered the city.
